Week 6 -The Sabbath Challenge

After things fell apart last Sabbath, I decided to work calmly this
week to create a restful atmosphere for my family. I felt like it
started with me and my attitude.

I did a better job of thinking ahead to get things done before Sabbath
started. I also worked hard on Friday to quiet my thoughts beforehand
instead of trying to quiet frazzled thoughts halfway into the Sabbath.

Something my whole family enjoyed was gathering together for dinner
Friday night while beautiful worship music played in the background.
It set the tone for the rest of Sabbath.

I think this was the first time that I truly felt the purpose of
Sabbath without having any preconceived ideas or expectations. I’m
sure that is what God intended. I just tend to let myself or other
distractions easily get in the way.

On Thursday, I finished re-reading “The Hiding Place” by Corrie ten
Boom. This is an excellent book that I highly recommend! It inspired
me to set my goals high to live a Godly life that can influence others
for Christ. For me, taking this time on Sabbath to draw close to Him
and simply be obedient to Him is a huge step towards this goal.

In the book, the ten Boom family got up everyday and spent time
together in God’s Word. Before they went to bed every night, they
spent time together in God’s Word. They put their faith in Jesus into
action. Other people came to them for prayer, Bible study, wisdom,
truth, or just to see what real Love looked like.

I want that for my family so badly! I want to make a positive
difference for Christ during my lifetime and see it continue through
the lives of my children and their children.

Along with keeping the Sabbath, let’s pray that true revival would
break out. Pray that people would ache to know God, His truth and His
love.

Thank you for letting me share what was on my heart this week! I hope
it blesses you in your walk with the Lord!

Until next week,
Lisa G.

As I mentioned last week, I am reposting the list of Sabbath
Activities
. It has grown a lot with all of your wonderful
suggestions! I hope to continue to add to it and also put in links to
helpful sites.

Some of you may have wondered or even asked questions as to my church
background and why I have just begun my Sabbath challenge. If you are
interested, I am also posting My Story to give you those answers.

“The Hiding Place” is an excellent book! I second your recommendation. :) Am also glad that last Sabbath went better for you. Did you notice that of the 10 Commandments, only the 4th- the one about Sabbath- starts with “Remember.” For me, the only way I can truly participate in Sabbath as I want, and as I know God wants for me, is to prepare ahead of time…to “remember” it all week so that I will be ready. That means my heart and my house.

So glad you also enjoy “The Hiding Place.” Thanks for sharing! I like the idea of remembering all week so we can be ready!
